Directors claiming expenses

Hi can anyone help me? We became a CIC last year. We are all  volunteers so no one is employed by our cic . Some of the directors volunteer a lot of their time and they only claim back out of pocket expenses. Our accountant  has just informed us we are not able to claim for our mileage to our office base. even if we are volunteers. Has anyone else had this issue?See More

Hi Rachel, you would be able to claim mileage as even though you are directors you are still volunteers, and you can be paid out of pocket expenses incurred when volunteering - which would include travel costs.  This is similar to how charity trustees are treated - where they can claim for these types of expenses - because their roles are voluntary.
