We are Clair & Scott of EarthCraftuk Ltd. Having trading for just under a year, we recognise that we are indeed a CIC and having spoken to the Regulator`s office, will be transferring from a Ltd company to a CIC this week.
We run educational long term Forest Schools programmes for hard to reach and hard to engage young people (13-17) in our wonderful ancient woodland location near Canterbury. We are also developing a Social Forestry programme too.
In our hi tech modern world, the majority of young people today just don`t have an affinity with the natural world. The current "ipod" generations are the first generations in the history of mankind where interraction with the natural world is not an integral part of their upbringing. The results are now proving to be catastrophic. ADHD, obesity, depression, behaviour problems and many more psychological disorders are being proven to having a direct link to this lack of interraction. A must read book for anyone interested in the future for our children - Last Child in the Woods - Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder, by Richard Louv - this book was paramount in our decision to do something about it!
We gave up our day jobs so to speak - spent several years training to get the qualifications needed to start our business. Scott holds the NCFE Advanced Bushcraft Instructors Award; Archery Instructor; Basic Expedition Leader and we are both OCN Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioners amongst many other qualifications we hold between us.
We have developed outdoor woodland programmes for young people which gives them national accreditation at the end of their programme. Our current awarding body is the NOCN and from September will be ASDAN. Our mission is to get the value of outdoor woodland education for school children, recognised and valued on the curriculum as any traditional curriculum subject. Many children need the traditional classroom walls removed in order to achieve their full potential. We are The Classroom without Walls....
We are looking forward to our journey as a CIC and welcome any support we can get!
Thanks for reading - have a wonderful day and if you can, take a walk in the countrside or park with your family and friends - there`s lot to see out there right now - it`s a magical place as Spring is approaching.
