Serving Community Enterprise

A Gloucestershire council has hatched a clandestine plan to effectively ‘hijack’ a thriving community centre run by local people on a large housing estate.

Apparently decisions to pull the plug were made by the Parish Council behind closed doors, and, typically, centre users have not been consulted or asked for their opinions.

For some time I've been aware of the absence of any policy to support social enterprise in Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean where I live.  This would be acknowledged at the council scrutiny meeting which followed the exposure of a failed healthcare CIC, from which a former Atos manager managed to extract a tidy sum in consultancy fees.

It would seem that we're presented with a done deal when it comes to LEP partnerships for local development.
