Ways to add value and create innovation in CIC's?

Here is one way...

Traidmark.org = Not / For Profit + Social Enterprise Innovation Germinater

Traidmark.org enables you to gain from hard work (performance pay) while adding value to any enterprise by funding innovation and running your enterprise as a Not For Profit or For Profit organisation that invests any surplus funds (or 100% net profit in the case of the for profit organisatioin).

This is how it works.

The organisation invests surplus profit in NEW… Continue

Welcome to Planet CIC

Welcome to the online forum of the new CIC Association. With your support and involvement we hope to become a focal point to develop the agenda, share information and realise the potential that is latent in what is the first new company legislation for close to 150 years.

The impetus for the Association has come from CICs wanting a way to directly engage in the agenda, from a defined perspective. From general awareness and communication issues thru to technical matters such as… Continue

Our respone to the CIC Divividend Cap Review

Questions 5 & 6 for Social Enterprises and community interest companies.

Question 5 – dividend cap

Do you consider that the double cap on dividends unduly restrict your ability to raise adequate financing of business start-up and growth?

Using the BofE rate, and the subsequent downward movement of the BofE rate since CICs came into being has definitely diminished the opportunities available to attract investment, but we believe the original positioning of the caps… Continue

Thoughts on the way to submitting the CIC Association's response to Dividend Cap consultation...

Recently I have been working on the providing feedback to the CIC (Community Interest Company) Regulator regarding a consultation on the Dividend Cap - http://www.cicregulator.gov.uk/consultationintro.shtml

The condundrum of enabling private (institutional or individual) investment in to community owned assets has, as you can imagine, arisen as a fairly important element that seems to present itself as a probelm prior to the issuing of fair dividend. Against what is an investment… Continue

Letter to Mr Byrne, Minister for the Cabinet Office

Dear Sir

I am writing to inform you of the formation of a CIC Association, which aims to represent its members and support the development of the CIC Legislation. I hope to receive an endorsement of support for what we’re trying to achieve, as Minister for the Cabinet Office your engagement would help us raise awareness of need amongst the existing support structures, and give a clear indication that the Legislation is valued and understood at the highest levels of Government. I… Continue

Social Traders

I've been working with social enterprises for quite a few years, in fact before the term 'social enterprise' was even used. We talked about community businesses and sometimes about social firms. There's so much now about social enterprises and a great a deal of debate. But I do like the term 'social enterprise' and I personally hope its kept a broad descriptor of organisations that trade for a social purpose. I'm putting together a project in Cornwall named "Social Traders" aimed those who… Continue

Economic Awareness?

There's space to be indulgent on a social networking site, so allow me a little. The current economic collapse has been a long time coming. Releasing financial, especially currency, controls some years ago led to an explosion of speculation, conspicously with hedge funds, but insurance, mutual funds, pension funds and banks have all been feeding from a trough that grew exponentially. Described as the service sector it was little better than gamblers sitting round a table on a Mississipi paddle… Continue
