North Somerset Community Partnership

I am an ageing (82) citizen of North Somerset who, from !st October, can expect that community health services will be moved from the PCT and be provided by  a CIC with the above name.

Both from the health standpoint and from a wish to see socially oriented ventures (trading or not) promoted as part of generating a collaborative society, I am lining up background from relevant sources to improve my own and local understanding. Pro tem I do not expect to be contributing, but…

Which funders for school-based counselling?

Hi!

I am currently converting my school-based counselling and training company (in Cornwall) into a Social Enterprise but unsure where to look for funding/grants. I’d greatly appreciate hearing from other people’s knowledge and experience

Background:  More children, teenagers and staff need counselling support than ever before and my view is that the way forward is to root counselling support in schools for easy access and effective systemic work. However, schools just…

Grants and Corporation Tax

Hi There

I have a question for finance professionals working with CIC's.

If a CIC has grant income and trading income do you split it in their annual accounts and only calculate Corporation tax on the trading income.  I asked this question of a tax inspector and the reply seemed to be yes but would like re-assurance from those working in the field.

Many thanks

Guest Blog - The ClearlySo Social Business Conference 2011

The social business and enterprise arena is often described as the fastest growing sector of the economy. It’s a nice thought if true, but just how big is it? According to government figures there are around 62,000 companies which could be described as social businesses or social enterprises in the UK. This is the figure that’s been routinely quoted for around two years. It is an impressive enough figure in…

London Venue - Well-being day.

I am looking for a space to deliver a well-being day for 15/20 Head Teachers in London on the 11th October 2011. As we will be doing relaxation techniques it would need to be quiet. Anyone know of a suitable venue? Many thanks - Jonathan.

CIC Insurance

Following a meeting with John Mulkerrin last week, I thought I would blog my thoughts around the meeting and what I can offer my fellow CIC members.

We set up in December as a new venture and a CIC. Becoming a CIC was an obvious way of setting out our values and ethical stance. We have been working with a number of insurers to offer a scheme for CICs. I am pleased to announce that we have a facility with one of the world's largest insurers offering Liability Insurance,…

Big Society

Why do the commentors asume that making profit is bad? CIC's are profit making enterprises, as they should be, otherwise they would not be in business.

The ones that are set up to suck up funding are the ones which have been formed from previous public services as a way of continuing to pay staff out of the charitable purse.
