Serving Community Enterprise

Hi,

At Community Spaces we work with the Owners of Commercial Property and try to convince them that rather than them keeping their un-used property empty they should un-lock the potential and allow us to find occupiers that can benefit the communities in which it is situated.

We have now got to the point where we have a portfolio of in excess of 2000 properties, predominantly shops where the landlords are prepared to accept occupation proposals from Charities, CICs and Start-up businesses.

The Landlord do so because they still have to pay rates on un-occupied shops, but by allowing occupiers who will pick up the rate burden it reduces their costs and boost footfall as well.

Give us a call on 01743 730004 or email info@community-spaces.co.uk for more details, we may just have the space your looking for.

Hi James

This is something I am definitely interested in and wonder if you properties become available in the Croydon area?

I have tried to email the email address provided but it isn't working.

Many Thanks

Tanya Dennis

Jim, a really interesting post. This is kind of related and if you can't help with this question, I wonder if one of the blog readers might be able to? We're trying to ascertain the 'value' of our water sports centre to the community. Are there any reports and research which could help us focus in on this. We're trying to say is that if we didn't exist the community would be 'poorer' and as a sailing training centre we deliver value and impact in the community . I know in some area where the local authority runs sailing centres they sometimes lose money which is absorbed by the council tax payer. However we carry the burden on cost control as part of our CIC operation and don't 'cost' our community. So there must be value in what we're doing but we have no idea how to measure this kind of value for grant applications etc... If anyone could point me in the right direction this would be so helpful. Simon.
