You can change status to a CIC by a special resolution at your board meeting, and adopting new articles of association etc: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/community-interest-compa...
all your shareholders should agree prior to doing this, if there is an issue more detailed information would be needed....
A CIC can indeed have a global presence, we believe close to 10% of CICs have a community of interest overseas
