The cultural resistance to a profit for social purpose approach has been a painful obstacle and comes from several directions. First that of instinct, those who see anything other than nonprofit inherently wrong - or have something of their own to conceal.

As my colleague/founder reported in this earlier interview "at first the idea seemed like heresy"

Working in Ukraine, a detractor was so convinced of the aim to make profit from human suffering that he's been running a smear campaign for the last 4 years.

The second group will be found within established centres of power. Unsurprisingly those who benefit from government funding won't readily endorse that which threatens the funding flow.

Finally there's the venture capitalist bandwagon. Hungry for investment they would prefer the purists such as Yunus not to be around.
