John Mulkerrin replied to Mark Trotter's discussion CIC to LTD ethical?
"Indeed, I think a detailed letter from them into the CIC Regulator would be best. Cant see how they would be advised that was an appropriate route, its very clear in technical guidance about the asset lock. However, being a CIC and not a LTD is…"

Eoin Heffernan replied to John Mulkerrin's discussion £240m health contract awarded to CIC
"Amen. UK outsourcing is begging for social solutions but the VCSE is too timid and makes the assumption that they can't win. They can. AND, commissioners want to buy from CICs. The only issue is confidence and perhaps audacity. "

Mark Trotter replied to John Mulkerrin's discussion £240m health contract awarded to CIC
"Hi John - a great step forward in many ways demonstrating that the statutory disembalance of public services naturally migrates to the CIC model.  In real budget terms it is a small contract over the 7 years but it is an indicator for any CIC…"

"IE: Just passing the existing surplus to their community of interest and not the value of the contracts would be a contravention of their duties as Directors and make them personally liable. Caution!"

Is it possible to talk to you direct please John.

I am currently looking at options to either disolve or continue with our CIC being dormant.

I would really value a quick chat with you.

Steve Blake who was our MD and a very good friend of mine died on 28/12/17 and as an not active CIC we need to work out the best thing to do.

Unfortunately we have zero funding available to even seek advice.

Paul

Thank you, John Mulkerrin, for accepting me into the association, and for the initial advice. Apologies for the late response, just finding it too easy to get taken off track at the minute.

What I am hoping to gain from membership is to be steered in the right direction. The CIC I am looking to form is going to be loosely based on the Men's Shed phenomenon, that is currently sweeping the country. It will have a specific task to work with former serving members of HM Armed Forces.

We want to be able to offer a workshop facility to aid the transition from service, back into civilian life. We will be offering training in woodcraft and metalcraft, and hopefully, be in a position to assist in job search, and indeed, employ some of the volunteers ourselves.

Many ex service personnel find this transition difficult due to the lack of structure that they had during their service. As a result, a lot of these people are feeling abandoned, and this can lead to them finding themselves in further difficulties, such as homelessness. Our aim is to give these people something to aim for, whilst maintaining some form of the structure that they know well, from time in service.

Any advice on this would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance to all.

Regards Paul Reynolds
